Danny Elfman woud be

proud that you've been inspired by him. I think you've captured his essence in this piece. It's simple, elegant, and has that dark feeling that is present in Tim Burton's movie. You're dead on in your style homage to Elfman.

Bravo!

:D

Rampant responds:

Wow! To say I've captured Elfman's style, that's a huge compliment!

Thanks for your review! :D

Reminiscent of Vangelis

This style is very similar to that of Vangelis. The use of synths in orchestral is a identifiable trademark of many of that composer's scores. I must say for your first foray into orchestral, you've done a very good job!

Way to go man!

:D

Xyresic responds:

Thanks a lot for all the support on chat, and I guess for convincing me to enter in the first place! Without your help, I never would have known I was capable of this kind of stuff. I really enjoyed making this, and I owe most of it....okay, ALL of it to you! Thanks for the review!

This has the essence of Eric Serra

This really reminds me of the soundtrack that he did for Atlantis. The texture provided by those low woodwinds in the background really gives this feel of a mysterious underwater city. Something could be lurking in just about any nook or crevasse. The simplistic approached used in this song rather enhanced the feel of peaceful sunken surroundings.

Excellent track man! :D

Realistc & Melodic

Awesome intro, it got me hooked into the song right away. The Choir & strings combined with the asian-sounding plucked instrument, bring an ethereal setting to mind, and sets the listener up for the next section.

Powerful strings at :48 seconds, easily usable for protagonist conflict/loss scenarios.

At 1:05 you may considering using an additional section of violins one octave higher.

The use of the music box, puts s tender sort of feel to this song, reminiscent of Elfin Lied.

I would also love to hear a completed version of this song!

Good job man! :D

Good progress!

You got the counter-melody thing going on. I might tone down the volume on the piano if I were you. Some low bass strings would be nice also. Other than that, keep up the good work.......

:D

This brings to mind...

Forrest Gump. Really reminiscent of Alan Silvestri's work. But beautifully different. :D

MarkySpark responds:

Wow! Thanks man, Appreciate the review. Your work is great.

You seemed...

Down. I got your message and read some of your posts. It seems like you're letting all those zero-bombers get to your head, leaving and coming back and all that. But don't let them. You're doing great. I myself, and quite a few others here on NG, rather consider it an honor when someone else is insecure enough to Zero-bomb our songs. But it's well-known that 1st pagers get bombed on a regular basis. Users that have been here for a long time have learned to accept it and ignore it.

So anyways, good song dedicated to your grandpa, but it's been mixed too hot. Looking at the waveform, there is literally no headroom left on the wavefile. Around 75% to 80% is where you want to leave it at. Especially for orchestral-based compositions, you want your mix to have lots of headroom so you can have more dynamic range. Other than that it's a wonderful work.

What sample pack do you use and what is your DAW? I use Cubase and EWQL Gold / EWQL Sd / EWQL Choirs.

For some reason this...

Reminds me of the score from Da Vinci Code.

Excellent track, love the tempo!

i was really expecting a mechanized "eeeerrroooorrrr" at the end. :D

Spikrodd responds:

Well after the mechanized melancholy that carried throughout, I thought I would end it on a lighter note. :D

Thanks for the review, though!

o%u0442%u043B%u0438%u0447%u043D%u043E!

If I didn't know any better, I would think that this is a very old well-known Russian folk-song. Hmm I wonder what this would sound like as a guitar mandolin duet...
Excellent. I think this might actually get first place!

Darkmaster603 responds:

ha, That would be great! I got last place last time I entered, so it would be almost an underdog kind of thing lol. I actually think japan has a really good, almost 100%, chance of winning though. I wouldn't mind using some old Russian guitars, but the guitar is a pretty traditional Russian instrument so it's good enough for me. There are entries that I think did awesome, and will most likely get first place.

I think everyone did an amazing job though (I really liked your piece, very well done!) so we should all feel we accomplished something.
